Navigating the New Media Landscape with eMAM

Digital media is the life blood of every organization.  Rich media, especially video, comes in faster from every side with almost exponentially increasing file sizes (resolutions) and needs to be quickly edited and shared to impatient stakeholders using more connected devices faster and better… at a lower budget.

Public cloud systems have great potential to provide global access to digital media, even for the smallest of organizations.  As-needed capacity purchasing allows organizations to sync costs with immediate needs.  Post-pandemic limiting the amount of staff on site makes outsourcing IT staff demands to cloud vendors more compelling.  The rapid obsolescence of purchased infrastructure can be replaced by the continuous innovation of cloud providers, with machine learning/artificial intelligence as a notable example.  Major concerns for remote access and infrastructure contingency/redundancy after the pandemic are well addressed by cloud platforms.  eMAM Cloud is excited to be the first to market in AWS and Alibaba Cloud marketplaces, and can provide a full cloud deployment in a variety of public and private cloud platforms.

Well-founded concerns remain in the adoption of cloud platforms for media production and storage:

  • How can the organization effectively budget for infrastructure costs?
  • Will egress costs overwhelm our budget?
  • How can large original source camera files be effectively moved to the cloud and downloaded when needed?
  • Can a cloud system tie into one cloud vendor for all future needs?
  • Will the organization be locked into one cloud vendor for all future needs?

One of the most compelling options to address some of these issues is through the use of a hybrid systems, with components in the cloud linked to existing systems in local infrastructure.  The upcoming release of LTO 9 with 24 TB of native storage (60 TB compressed) per tape and very low ongoing operating costs, makes storing large quantities of media in local archives is a very compelling option, especially if these media are accessible throughout the organization.  With integrations to all of the leading archive systems, eMAM can manage local archives systems, local storage systems, an entire range of best-in-breed local technologies.  With light weight, quickly viewed and shared proxy copies of media shared from local or-even better-cloud environments with universal access and AI tagging, all  organization members can view all of the media from any connection worldwide.  Organizations can optimize their solution to store media in the most suitable cloud(s) and local locations based on cost and performance needs.

Organizations need to protect important media and information.  Modern cloud providers have best-in-class teams dedicated to continuously improve security settings.  eMAM can link a combination of media storage locations, based on which local or cloud systems best meets the security requirements for each different user group or department within an organization.   eMAM has granular permission controls to restrict which users access which media and what they can do with them.  Perhaps most important is eMAM’s ability to build a complete workflow system for an organization: the best security protocols are useless if staff use a combination of unlinked ad hoc systems to get their work done.  eMAM can provide an integrated workflow to streamline processes:

  • Ingest: Media and related metadata arrive from anywhere, with optional file acceleration
  • Organize: Category structures simplify workflows and restrict access
  • Edit: Adobe Creative Cloud and Apple Final Cut Pro  integrations allow local, remote, and cloud storage and processing for editors and designers inside their apps, linked with web access for collaboration with others
  • Share: Review and approval, email marketing, and social media links allow easy sharing
  • Deliver: Media can be packaged and processed for broadcast, news, and delivery needs
  • Archive: Media can be securely and affordably archived in local or cloud systems while maintaining access
